Saying Goodbye to a Good Read

It has been a long time since I have actually read a book, let alone an entire series – but I just finished all four books of Twilight and absolutely couldn’t read them fast enough. I was hesitant to read the initial book because I am not a big fan of vampire books (Anne Rice bores me to tears), but I was amazingly surprised to find this series more romantic than fairy-tale (I am also not a fan of romance novels).  Being that I enjoy more “intellectual books” like my favorite, Crytonomicon, by Neal Stephenson,  I feel oddly silly admitting my love of this book since I believe its intended audience was that of the 16-year old girl, but I have to say that I was totally captivated.  Apparently, I am not the only one to find this simple read intriguing – everyone I know from peers, to my mother, and my 13 year old niece are reading or re-reading this series as well.

Once I finished Twilight during my Thanksgiving holiday with family I quickly read books 2, 3 and 4 within the following week, finishing each book within a day.  I just finished the last book, Breaking Dawn, and now feel sad like the day after Christmas when all of the anticipation is over and the gifts have all been exchanged and it is just time to clean up and say goodbye to everyone as they return home to start a new year.  I am in no hurry to see the movie, which will no doubt be disappointing to the storyline in my mind.   And next, I suppose I will start Midnight Sun which is an unpublished draft – same storyline, just from Edward’s point of view. Or, someone can get me the Official Saga as a Christmas gift ;)

As for family life, Little Man got a new pair of winterized-crocs (see below) since the weather has turned cold here.  Snow and freezing the last few days…And, the two of us booked a modeling job for MOP (Modern Organic Products) to be appearing in Ulta stores and websites in the near future.  Sevyn’s made a whopping $725 for his 3 hours (only 10 minutes of which was actually performing on set).  We are setting up a savings account for his “makings” of which he will have access to once he is old enough.

  1. I have these in RED! With the fleece, too! Of course, they’re ginormous, but so comfy. I look like a big doofusy elf when I wear.

So, have you seen the new movie and how does it compare to the book?

  2. Cute knees!

  3. Two models in the family?! I’ve been thinking about reading Twilight, as I enjoyed Harry Potter so much, I figure I can enjoy books written for younger age sets. Now I know what to add to my XMAS list! Hope to see you soon!

  4. I had to share that this post inspired me to read the first Twilight book, and I ripped through all of them in a month. Wow, what a great read! Now I’m sad there isn’t another book in the series!
